Ghost OG
Also known as: Ghost OG Kush, Ghost Cut
Breeder: Clone-only selection by ORGNKID (Cali Kush Seeds), distributed by Overgrow.com member Ghost
Ghost OG is widely considered the most visually stunning of the original OG Kush phenotypes, often called the white cut due to trichome coverage so dense that flowers appear dipped in sugar. Among the three marquee OG Kush selections (Ghost, SFV, Tahoe), Ghost OG is distinguished by extreme frost and resin production, a sweeter more floral nose, and slightly more vigor than the notoriously slow original OG. It remains one of the most sought-after clone-only genetics with 149+ documented direct descendants in the SeedFinder database.
Lineage & Genetics
Cross: OG Kush (phenotype selection)
OG Kush: originated from bag seed found in Florida, transported to Los Angeles by Matt Bubba Berger circa 1996, maintained and distributed by Josh D (Josh Del Rosso). Disputed lineage of Chemdawg x (Lemon Thai x Old World Paki Kush). Indica-dominant hybrid (55-60% indica), 18-27% THC. Classic pine, lemon, fuel aroma with dense golf-ball nugs, vine-like structure, and heavy Cal-Mag demand.
Lineage Dispute
Some commercial sources (Illicit, Verilife, DNA Genetics) list lineage as OG Kush x Afghani. This appears to conflate the clone-only Ghost cut with seed-reproduced commercial versions. The original Ghost OG documented by ORGNKID and the Overgrow/ICMag community is a direct OG Kush phenotype, not an intentional cross.
Terpene Profile
Beta-Caryophyllene — 0.3-0.9% — often dominant in Ghost OG specifically, which differs from many OG cuts where myrcene leads; spicy, peppery, black pepper
Myrcene — 0.5-1.2% — earthy, musky, hops, mango; drives body effect
Limonene — 0.2-0.7% — bright citrus, lemon zest; drives cerebral lift
Alpha-Pinene — 0.1-0.3% — fresh pine, conifer
Humulene — Trace-0.2% — woody, earthy, hops
Bisabolol — Trace — floral, chamomile-like; uncommon minor terpene notable in Ghost OG
Aroma: Sharp lemon cleaner, pine needles, diesel fuel — with a distinctly sweeter, more floral top note than the standard OG. Undertones of spice (black pepper) and subtle orange peel. Often described as lemon Pine-Sol with a hint of flowers. Stem rub test in veg produces bright lemon by weeks 3-4.
Flavor: Citrus and earthy on the inhale; pungent, peppery fuel on the exhale. Sweet orange notes linger. The smoke is smooth but thick.
Effects & Experience
Onset: Cerebral uplift, mood elevation, euphoric buzz with mental clarity and creative spark within 0-15 minutes.
Balanced head-and-body effect described as simultaneously potent and non-intrusive at peak. Transitions to full-body relaxation, heavy limbs, and couch-lock potential at 60-180 minutes. Frequently praised for being powerful without being overwhelming — the OG cut that even moderate-tolerance consumers can enjoy without anxiety.
Duration: 2-3 hours.

Growing Characteristics
Grow Tips: Clone-only challenges: source verification matters — mislabeled, degraded, or contaminated clones are common after 20+ years in circulation. Always test incoming clones for Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) — clone-only genetics at elevated risk. Infected plants show stunted growth, reduced trichomes, brittle stems. Rooting protocol: 4-6 inch cuttings, clean 45-degree cut at node, into rockwool at 72-75F/80-85% RH under humidity dome, roots in 10-14 days at 150-200 PPFD, feed at EC 0.6-0.8. S1 seeds as alternative: ORGNKID's Cali Kush Seeds feminized S1 line offers a seed starting point but expect 10-25% phenotypic deviation — phenohunt 10-30 S1 plants for 1-2 near-copies. Environment: veg at 75-80F day/68-72F night/60-70% RH/0.8-1.2 kPa VPD/300-500 PPFD; early flower 72-78F day/65-70F night/45-50% RH; late flower 68-75F day/62-68F night/40-45% RH (under 40% final 2 weeks). pH 6.2-6.5 soil, 5.8-6.2 coco/hydro. Cold finish: dropping night temps to 60-65F final week can enhance resin production. Plant structure: classic OG vine architecture with strong apical dominance — will grow tall and lanky without intervention. Moderate-to-wide internodal spacing. Expect 1.5-2x stretch in first 3 weeks of 12/12. Thin flexible branches will flop and snap under dense bud weight without support. Golf-ball-sized rock-hard nugs rather than massive colas. Required training: top above 4th-5th node, LST throughout veg, SCROG net set at canopy height (flip when 70-80% full), second trellis net at week 2-3 of flower for support. Lollipop and defoliate days 1-21 of flower then again around day 35. Pro tip: if working in a tent under 6 feet, flip to 12/12 one week earlier than you think. Nutrients: moderate-to-heavy feeder with HIGH nutrient sensitivity — narrow margin between hungry and burnt. Cal-Mag is NON-NEGOTIABLE — all OGs are magnesium hogs. Interveinal chlorosis (rust spots on mid-canopy leaves) in weeks 4-6 of flower is the hallmark of true OG genetics being underfed Mg. Supplement 2-5 mL/gal Cal-Mag from week 2 of veg through week 6 of flower (5-7 mL/gal in coco). Under LED demand increases further. Reduce nitrogen sharply starting week 4 of flower — excess N in late bloom causes dark clawing leaves and reduced terpene expression. Do not push above EC 2.2 — OG genetics show burn above 2.4 even when appearing hungry. If it grows easy, it probably is not the real OG — this finickiness is a hallmark of genuine genetics. EC targets: clone/seedling 0.6-0.8, early veg 0.8-1.2, late veg 1.4-1.8, early bloom 1.6-1.8, peak bloom 1.8-2.0, ripen/flush 1.1-1.4 to plain water. Harvest: do NOT harvest by calendar alone. Pistils 50-70% darkened and curled = ready. Trichomes mostly milky/cloudy with 10-20% amber = harvest window. 30%+ amber = THC degrading to CBN with heavy sedation. Pest and disease: high botrytis risk from dense colas — maintain RH under 45% in late flower with robust airflow and defoliated interior. Moderate PM risk. HLVd risk HIGH for clone-only genetics. Drying: 60-65F/55-60% RH for 7-14 days in darkness. Cure: jar at 58-62% RH with Boveda packs, burp daily first week then every 2-3 days. Minimum 4-week cure, 6-8 weeks ideal for OG terps to fully develop. A clean flush and slow dry noticeably improve terpene expression on OG strains. Ghost OG is a moderate yielder by modern standards and will never compete with production hybrids on weight, but its dense bud structure, extreme resin coverage, and premium bag appeal mean quality-per-gram value is exceptional.
History & Origin
OG Kush originated circa 1996 when Matt Bubba Berger transported the clone from Florida to Josh D in Los Angeles. ORGNKID, a 30+ year veteran grower and founder of Cali Kush Seeds, acquired the OG Kush clone (reportedly for $5,000 plus five pounds of flower) in the late 1990s to early 2000s. He sold a cut to an Overgrow.com forum member who used the handle Ghost around 2000-2002. Ghost distributed the cut within the Overgrow community and growers began calling it Ghost OG after him. By the mid-2000s Ghost OG became one of three elite OG cuts (alongside SFV and Tahoe) circulating in the California legacy market. ORGNKID later released feminized S1 seeds through Cali Kush Seeds around 2006-2010.
