Maximize yields from your clones with proven training methods
Training your cannabis plants is the difference between an average harvest and an exceptional one. These techniques manipulate plant shape to create an even canopy, increase bud sites, and maximize light penetration — all of which directly increase yield.
Difficulty: Beginner | Best for: All setups
Gently bending and tying branches to create a flat, even canopy. No damage to the plant. Start when plants have 4-5 nodes. Use soft plant ties attached to the container edge. Re-adjust ties every 2-3 days as the plant grows. Great for beginners.
Difficulty: Intermediate | Best for: Indoor and greenhouse
Cutting the main stem tip to split it into two. Each top becomes a new main cola. Top when plants have 5-6 nodes. Can be repeated ("manifolding") for 4, 8, or even 16 even tops. Allow 5-7 days of recovery before additional training.
Difficulty: Intermediate | Best for: Indoor
A horizontal screen (trellis net) placed 12-18 inches above the pot. Branches are woven through the screen to create a perfectly flat canopy. Every bud site gets equal light. Combine with topping for maximum effect. Use our yield calculator to estimate the impact.
Difficulty: Advanced | Best for: Experienced growers
Deliberately pinching and bending branches until the inner fibers break (without breaking the skin). The branch heals with a reinforced "knuckle" that delivers more nutrients. Only do during veg — never in flower.
Vigorous strains respond best to training: Donkey Kong, MAC 1, Tree Flip. Fast-vegging strains like Prime Punch recover quickly from training stress.
