Gelato #41
Also known as: Bacio Gelato, Bacio, G41, G #41
Breeder: Sherbinskis (Mario Guzman) / Cookie Fam (Jigga)
Gelato #41 is the crown jewel of the Gelato line and one of the most important cultivars in modern cannabis genetics. Selected as the 41st seedling from a Sunset Sherbet x Thin Mint Cookies cross by Mario Guzman (Sherbinskis), it delivers exceptional potency (25-32% THC on the heritage cut), a complex dessert terpene profile, and vivid purple-green-orange colorways that redefined what 'exotic' cannabis means. With 178 direct descendants on SeedFinder—including Jealousy (2022 SOTY) and Permanent Marker (2023 SOTY)—it anchors one of the most commercially important family trees in the industry.
Lineage & Genetics
Cross: Sunset Sherbet x Thin Mint Cookies
Sunset Sherbet (Girl Scout Cookies x Pink Panties) contributes the sweet, creamy, sherbet-like terpene base, the purple color potential from its Pink Panties heritage, and the relaxing body effects. Thin Mint Cookies (OG Kush x Durban Poison phenotype) contributes potency ceiling, dense bud structure, minty-fuel complexity, and the euphoric cerebral component.
Terpene Profile
Caryophyllene — Dominant at ~0.85%; provides the peppery, spicy backbone and binds CB2 receptors for anti-inflammatory effects
Limonene — Present at ~0.62%; delivers bright citrus and sweet orange top notes that define the 'gelato' character
Linalool — Found at ~0.45%; adds floral lavender softness and enhances the calming, anxiolytic effects
Humulene — Present at ~0.31%; contributes earthy, woody, hoppy undertones
Myrcene — Found at ~0.25%; adds herbal depth and enhances the relaxing body effects
Aroma: Sweet cream and sherbet up front, layered with bright citrus, soft lavender, peppery spice, and earthy pine. Complex and dessert-forward with a gaseous OG undertone that intensifies when buds are broken open.
Flavor: Inhale brings smooth sherbet, blueberry, and orange citrus. Exhale reveals hazelnut, chocolate, and a cool minty finish. Total terpene content around 3.74% delivers a rich, full-spectrum flavor experience.
Effects & Experience
Onset: Fast-acting; euphoric head rush within minutes of first hit
Powerful euphoria and mood elevation settle into a balanced body relaxation. Creative and social at moderate doses; heavier sedation at higher doses. The cerebral component stays present throughout—not a pure couch-lock strain.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Commonly Reported Uses
Growing Characteristics
Grow Tips: Top at node 5-6 and use SCROG or LST to manage bushy canopy. Defoliate aggressively at flip and week 3 of flower for airflow. Supplement CalMag under LEDs. Drop night temps below 65°F in final 2 weeks to express signature purple coloration. Slow dry 10-14 days at 60°F/60% RH and cure 2+ weeks to preserve terpene complexity. Support branches with trellis in late flower—buds get heavy.
History & Origin
Mario Guzman (Mr. Sherbinski) and Jigga crossed Sunset Sherbet with Thin Mint Cookies in 2014, producing seeds that became the Gelato line. Each seedling was numbered on its pot—#41 was the 41st plant in the garden. Out of dozens of phenotypes, #41 was selected for its exceptional bud density, terpene richness, and potency ceiling. Guzman later named it 'Bacio' (Italian for 'kiss'). The original cut was never released in seed or clone form and remains proprietary to Sherbinskis. Multiple seed companies now sell reproductions that may differ from the heritage cut. The Gelato line earned Leafly's Strain of the Year in 2018 and went on to parent Jealousy (2022 SOTY) and Permanent Marker (2023 SOTY), making it one of the most consequential cultivars in modern cannabis.
