Growing Characteristics

Grow Tips: Sunset Sherbet is moderately sensitive to overfeeding — this is the single most commonly cited growing mistake. Start ALL new nutrients at half manufacturer's recommended dose and scale up over 3-4 days. Target EC 1.2-1.6 in veg, 1.6-2.0 in early flower. pH 5.8-6.2 in coco/hydro, 6.2-6.8 in soil. Begin CalMag from week 2 (100-150 ppm Ca, 40-60 ppm Mg with RO water). The plant naturally grows wide and bushy, making it highly responsive to canopy management. Top once above the 4th or 5th node during veg. LST after topping by bending and tying branches outward. ScrOG is highly recommended for maximum yield — fill approximately 70% of the net before flipping. Perform strategic defoliation at days 21 and 42 of flower, focusing on fan leaves blocking light or restricting airflow. Dense bud structure is the PRIMARY mold risk — maintain 40-45% RH in weeks 5-9 of flower with 30-50 air exchanges per hour. Strong canopy air movement is non-negotiable. Check inner bud sites regularly for gray mold. Start checking trichomes from end of week 7 using 60-100x magnification. Target 85-90% cloudy with 10-15% amber. Created in 2012 through a happy accident when a male Pink Panties seedling pollinated an entire room of Thin Mint Cookies in Mr. Sherbinski's grandmother's flowering room in San Francisco's Sunset District. Sherbinski named it after Thrifty ice cream rainbow sherbet his mother bought him as a child. Rose to fame through San Francisco medical dispensaries and Bay Area underground, paralleling Instagram's growth. Defined the dessert strain category alongside GSC. Around 2014, Sherbinski and Jigga crossed Sunset Sherbert x Thin Mint Cookies to produce the Gelato line.
