Meat Breath
Also known as: Meatbreath
Breeder: ThugPug Genetics
Meat Breath is a pungent, indica-leaning hybrid bred by Gromer Juana of ThugPug Genetics in Michigan. It emerged around 2015–2016 and quickly earned cult status for its bold, savory 'umami' nose — a sharp departure from the fruit-forward trend of modern cultivars. The strain won 3rd Place Indica at the 2017 Karma Cup and has become a cornerstone parent in the solventless hash community thanks to large, sandy trichome heads that detach cleanly during ice water extraction. Dense, resin-drenched flowers deliver an old-school indica stone: full-body buzzing that transitions into deep couch-lock and sleep. Meat Breath is not an OGKB cross despite sharing the 'Breath' suffix with ThugPug's OGKB line; its savory character comes from Meatloaf.
Lineage & Genetics
Cross: Meatloaf x Mendo Breath F2
Mendo Breath F2: Bred by Gage Green Genetics (California). Cross of OGKB (a Cookies-family phenotype) x Mendo Montage. Known for frosty, dense buds with vanilla-caramel-cookie aromas and balanced euphoric-to-sedating effects. Average flowering ~60 days. | Meatloaf: Rare, mysterious indica-dominant hybrid of unknown confirmed parentage. Reportedly low-to-moderate THC (15–19%) but intensely savory — earthy, spicy, and 'meaty' aromas reminiscent of its namesake dish. Likely the source of Meat Breath's funky, pungent character. Some speculation it may be a unique GSC phenotype.
Lineage Dispute
Meatloaf's parentage is unconfirmed. SeedFinder lists it as 'Unknown Strain.' Some sources speculate it is a GSC phenotype with savory terps; Kind Green Buds claims GMO (Garlic Cookies) lineage. Neither has been confirmed by the breeder. Mendo Breath parent is specifically the F2 generation per SeedFinder genealogy.
Terpene Profile
Caryophyllene —
Myrcene —
Limonene —
Humulene —
Aroma: Extremely pungent and room-filling. Leads with earthy, nutty, savory funk — often compared to blue cheese, garlic, or cured meat. Breaking buds open releases a second wave of spicy pepper and sharp diesel. Undertones of damp wood and a faint sweetness from the Mendo Breath side round out the nose. The smell lingers on fingers and in rooms long after handling.
Flavor: Savory-forward on the inhale with earthy, woody, and nutty notes layered with funky blue cheese and spice. The exhale carries a tangy diesel-fuel bite with hints of pine and citrus. Some phenotypes show a subtle vanilla-caramel sweetness from Mendo Breath genetics. Notably thick, lingering mouthfeel that coats the palate.
Effects & Experience
Onset: Moderate creeper — 5 to 15 minutes for full onset. Initial cerebral buzz arrives first as a mood lift and gentle euphoria before the body effects build.
Starts with a warm, uplifting head buzz that clears stress and elevates mood. Within 20–30 minutes the indica side takes over: a heavy, buzzing full-body relaxation that feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket. Builds to strong couch-lock with pronounced munchies. Veteran smokers report being 'glued to the couch' and happily sedated. Not recommended for productivity or daytime tasks.
Duration: Long-lasting — 2 to 4 hours of primary effects. The sedation and body heaviness can linger well beyond the cerebral high, often gently pushing toward sleep.

Growing Characteristics
Grow Tips: Dense bud structure demands aggressive airflow management — defoliate inner canopy and run oscillating fans to prevent botrytis and powdery mildew in the thick colas Vigorous vegetative stretch once flipped to flower; plan headroom accordingly or top/LST early to control height Quality over quantity strain — don't chase yield. The resin density and terpene expression are the payoff Excellent candidate for ice water hash extraction. Trichome heads are large, capitate-stalked, and 'sandy' — they detach cleanly during agitation For solventless: wash fresh-frozen material for best terpene preservation. Reliable yields with standard 73–120 micron collection bags Some phenotypes express purple hues under cooler nighttime temperatures in late flower, but this is pheno-dependent — not guaranteed Feed moderately; the dense flowers can foxtail or develop nutrient burn at the tips if pushed too hard in late bloom
History & Origin
ThugPug Genetics, operated by the enigmatic Michigan breeder known as Gromer Juana, created Meat Breath by crossing Meatloaf with Mendo Breath F2. The strain began circulating around 2015 and gained rapid traction on cannabis grow forums. In 2017, growers Teemu and Two Dope Boys entered Meat Breath into the Karma Cup in Canada, where it placed 3rd in the Indica category — cementing its reputation beyond underground circles. ThugPug never sold seeds directly; authorized vendors included Seeds Here Now, North Atlantic Seed, and Terpy T. The strain arrived at the leading edge of the 'savory terp' movement that Gromer helped pioneer, proving that funky, pungent, 'ugly' terpene profiles could command premium pricing and breeder-pack demand. Meat Breath has since become one of ThugPug's most-used parent strains, with 68 direct descendants catalogued on SeedFinder as of 2026.
