Oreoz

Also known as: Oooze, Oreos, Oreo Cookies, O.R.E.O.Z

Breeder: 3rd Coast Genetics (MaxYields)

Oreoz has emerged as one of the defining cultivars of the early-to-mid 2020s American cannabis market, sitting at the intersection of extreme visual appeal (near-black to deep purple buds coated in glassy trichomes), dessert-strain dominance with an unusually complex chocolate-and-gas profile, and extraction-grade resin density inherited from Secret Weapon's White Widow lineage. Named runner-up for Leafly Strain of the Year in 2022, it ranks in the top 150 strains on store menus nationwide. The strain was officially rebranded to Oooze after Mondelez International (parent of Nabisco/Oreo) issued a cease-and-desist for trademark infringement, though it continues to be widely known as Oreoz.

Lineage & Genetics

Cross: Cookies and Cream x Secret Weapon

Parent strains in encyclopedia:Girl Scout CookiesWhite Widow

Cookies and Cream (Exotic Genetix, Tacoma WA) — Girl Scout Cookies x Starfighter F2, balanced 50/50 hybrid, won 1st Place Best Hybrid at the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup. Contributes sweet vanilla/cream/cookie-dough aroma, high resin, dense structure, and the Cookies family recognition. Secret Weapon (Vandal Genetics) — Cheese Quake (TGA Subcool) x White Widow (Dutch Passion), sativa-dominant ~60/40 hybrid. Known as the frost donor and genetic father of modern hype-monsters — the source of Oreoz's extreme trichome production, along with earthy/fuel gas undertones and increased physical potency.

Terpene Profile

DOMINANT

Beta-Caryophyllene0.4%-1.2% — Spicy, peppery; interacts with CB2 receptors for anti-inflammatory/calming effects

DOMINANT

Limonene0.3%-0.8% — Citrus brightness; mood-lifting quality that prevents the heavy body from feeling dampening

SECONDARY

Myrcene0.2%-1.0% — Earthy, herbal, musky; enhances sedation and couch-lock body effect

SECONDARY

Linalool0.1%-0.6% — Floral, vanilla, roasted marshmallow; calming, anxiolytic

SECONDARY

HumuleneTrace-0.3% — Woody, hoppy; appetite-suppressing counterbalance

Aroma: Primary notes of sweet dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Secondary notes of campfire marshmallow, vanilla cookie dough, and creamy dairy. Tertiary sharp diesel/fuel gas, earthy tobacco, black coffee. Background of spicy black pepper and minty menthol hint.

Flavor: Inhale delivers creamy vanilla, sweet Oreo cookie, and chocolate. Mid-palate brings nutty baked goods and toasted graham cracker. Exhale finishes with spicy diesel gas, earthy coffee, and peppery finish. Lingering chocolate and fuel aftertaste. The flavor profile is consistently described as tasting like an actual Oreo cookie.

Effects & Experience

Onset: A gentle, creeping onset over 0-15 minutes with mild euphoric uplift, improved mood, and sense of happiness and mental calm. Some users report enhanced creativity and sociability during this initial window.

A warm, tingly sensation spreads from head through body at 15-60 minutes. Muscle tension releases progressively. Strong appetite stimulation arrives at this stage. At 60+ minutes and higher doses, deep couch-lock sets in, thinking slows, eyelids grow heavy, and natural sleep onset follows. Three-phase arc: cerebral lift, body melt, then sedation and sleep.

Duration: Primary effects 2-3 hours; residual body relaxation additional 1-2 hours; total session 3-5 hours

Growing Characteristics

Flower Time
56-65 days (8-9 weeks); some phenotypes to 70 days
Yield (Indoor)
450-600 g/m2 (1-2 oz/ft2)
Yield (Outdoor)
500-680 g/plant (10-15 oz/plant)
Difficulty
Moderate (intermediate)
Height
Medium, 80-130 cm (3-4 ft) indoors. Tight internodes, bushy, Afghani-type leaves in veg.
Environment
Temperate, low humidity; warm and dry preferred. Daytime 70-80F (21-27C), nighttime drop 10-15F below daytime especially in final 2 weeks targeting 62-68F to express signature dark purple-to-black coloring. Humidity in veg 55-65%, early flower 45-55%, final 3 weeks BELOW 45% critical due to extreme bud density. Light intensity 800-900 PPFD indoors; the plant is light-resilient. pH 6.0-6.5 soil, 5.8-6.2 coco.

Grow Tips: Oreoz is a MODERATE feeder — does NOT need heavy feeding. Veg EC target 0.8-1.6 mS/cm, peak flower EC max ~2.2 (do not exceed). Start at 50-70% recommended feed chart strength and increase based on plant response. Monitor for tip burn and back off 10% at first sign. Silica supplementation during veg strengthens cell walls to support dense bud structures. Week-by-week flower progression: Weeks 1-3 controlled stretch usually doubling in height, focus on final training and flat canopy, transition to bloom feed. Weeks 4-6 dense bracts cluster aggressively, silver resin starts coating sugar leaves, steady nutrients and moderate watering. Weeks 7-9 flowers reach maximum density, reduce humidity aggressively below 45%, lower nighttime temps to trigger dark purple/black pigmentation via anthocyanin production, trichomes transition clear to milky to early amber. Multi-top during veg with multiple top sites. LST to develop lateral spread and even canopy. SCROG highly recommended — install trellis before flipping, fill net evenly during early flower stretch. Lollipopping to remove lower growth. Defoliation: thorough leaf strip at day 21 of flower, second targeted defoliation possible at week 6 if canopy too dense. Do NOT overcrowd — bushy structure needs airflow between plants. MOLD/BOTRYTIS is the #1 threat. Extreme bud density creates internal moisture pockets invisible from outside. By the time gray mold is visible it has already destroyed the core. Prevention: low RH under 45% late flower, strong airflow, defoliation. Break open suspect dense colas to check interiors during final weeks. Avoid foliar sprays past week 2 of flower. Late-flower light reduction during last 14 days to preserve terpene volatiles. HARVEST: Mostly cloudy + 10-20% amber for balanced high with sedative finish. 20-30% amber for maximum sedative power. Do NOT rush — final 2 weeks produce majority of resin and the color shift; cutting early sacrifices both bag appeal and potency. Typical 56-65 days from flip. DRYING: Hang dry whole plant in dark climate-controlled room at 60F and 60% RH for a slow 14-day dry. A patient slow dry is CRITICAL — the chocolate and gas terpenes are volatile and will be destroyed by fast drying. Drying too fast produces grassy, hay-like smell that permanently replaces the dessert profile. CURING: Jar in airtight containers at 58-62% RH with humidity packs, minimum 2-3 weeks cure, chocolate and marshmallow notes deepen significantly during cure, burp daily first week then every 2-3 days, extended cure 4-8 weeks rewarded as flavor complexity continues developing. Common mistakes: humidity too high in late flower leading to invisible interior bud rot, harvesting too early sacrificing color shift and final resin push, fast drying destroying terpene profile, overfeeding past EC 2.2, insufficient defoliation leading to mold and uneven ripening, no airflow planning with oscillating fans non-negotiable, skipping cold nighttime finish missing the near-black coloring from anthocyanin production.

History & Origin

3rd Coast Genetics was founded around 2005 by MaxYields on the shores of Lake Michigan, Michigan. Oreoz was created in the late 2010s by crossing their Cookies and Cream cut with Secret Weapon and rapidly gained traction through social media. By 2020-2021 it exploded in popularity driven by Instagram and dispensary bag appeal with the near-black buds and silver trichome coatings becoming one of the most photographed cannabis aesthetics of the era. In October 2021, Oreoz won 1st Place Hybrid Flower at the High Times Cannabis Cup People's Choice Oklahoma. In 2022 it was runner-up for Leafly Strain of the Year. In 2023-2024, Mondelez International issued cease-and-desist letters and 3rd Coast Genetics officially rebranded the strain to Oooze, though it continues to be widely sold as Oreoz.
