Sour Ztrawz
Also known as: Sour Straws, Sour Strawz, Ztraws, Zour Straws
Breeder: Seed Junky GeneticsSeed Junky Genetics →
Sour Ztrawz is the Seed Junky Genetics line that combines two of the breeder's own flagships, Kush Mints and Permanent Marker BX1, with 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz's Zkittlez, and in 2026 it became the backbone of an entire "Straws" family of seed drops. Cultivators encounter it almost entirely through its children — Cake Straws, Straw Burst, Apple Straws, Ztrawbanger, Lemon Ztrawz, Magic Ztrawz — rather than as a pack of its own, and independent write-ups of those children consistently credit Sour Ztrawz with the sour-candy character they share. J Beezy's one breeder-adjacent remark about what it contributes is that crossing Wedding Cake to it fixed Wedding Cake's pistils while adding greasiness, colour, and dank. Retail appearances of the line itself are rare: a Bonsai Cultivation cut was listed at a single Marion dispensary in August 2026, and no public seed or clone release of Sour Ztrawz was found.

Lineage & Genetics
Cross: Zkittlez x Kush Mints x Permanent Marker BX1
Zkittlez, also sold as "The Original Z" or "Z," is credited to 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz and was released through the Dying Breed Seeds label. It is Original Dallas Grape Ape x Humboldt Grapefruit crossed with a third parent the originators never disclosed. Cannabis Now gives a 56 to 63 day flowering time and high yield, and notes that Zkittlez "lacked bag appeal, but more than made up for it with gobs of tropical candy terps." SeedFinder's Original Z entry describes it as indica-dominant and records a 1st place at the 2016 Emerald Cup. Subdued Excitement notes moderate to small buds with long reddish-brown pistils. Kush Mints is Seed Junky Genetics' own line, Bubba Kush x Animal Mints. PhenoDB lists 8 to 9 weeks flowering, 15 lab samples ranging 26.1% to 31.2% THC, an indoor yield of 580 g/m², a 100 to 140 cm height, and seedjunky.com as the breeder source. Seed & Smith confirms the parents and the Southern California origin, and Leafly agrees on Animal Mints x Bubba Kush with mint, menthol, and pine flavours. Permanent Marker BX1 is a first backcross of Seed Junky's Permanent Marker, the plant that took High Times Strain of the Year 2022 and Leafly Strain of the Year 2023, with Doja Pak involved in the market selection. Permanent Marker itself is described as (Biscotti S1 x Sherb Bx1) x Jealousy F2; Adios MF and Gunnpowwder are sister phenotypes from the same seed cross. Its terpenes are led by limonene, myrcene, and beta-caryophyllene, over a gas-and-solvent nose with sweet cream and candy. Blimburn's grow guide gives 8 to 10 weeks flowering and heavy phosphorus and potassium demand, and describes the plant as vigorous and suited to FIM and screen-of-green training.
Lineage Dispute
The three components of the cross are verified across four sources, but the order of the cross has never been published by the breeder. Leaf Nation's Fire Follower column, written with direct access to Seed Junky co-founder J Beezy, hedges with "reportedly." The South African clone distributor Juicy Clones is the only source that implies a structure, describing Sour Straws as coming "from a backcross of its acclaimed Zkittlez x Kush Mints," which reads as (Zkittlez x Kush Mints) x Permanent Marker BX1. That structure is single-source and should be displayed as likely rather than confirmed. CannaStack repeats the same formula but credits Fire Follower as its source, so it corroborates rather than independently confirms. No SeedFinder.eu or PhenoDB entry exists for Sour Ztrawz itself, the expected SeedFinder URL returned a 404, and no breeder-posted description was retrievable from seedjunky.com or seedjunkygenetics.com in this research pass. Breeder attribution therefore rests on Leafly's child-strain entries, seed-bank listings from Supreme Seed Bank and House of Seeds, and the Leaf Nation column rather than on a dedicated breeder page. The spelling is unsettled but the cultivar is not. Sour Ztrawz, Sour Strawz, Sour Straws, Ztraws, and Zour Straws all refer to the same Seed Junky line, and the same children appear under both spellings — Ztrawbanger and Strawbanger are both Sherbanger x Sour Ztrawz/Straws, and Lemon Ztrawz is listed as Lemon Up x Sour Strawz. There is a same-name confusion to avoid: "Sour Ztrawberriez" does not appear to exist as a cultivar, and Sour Ztrawz is neither DNA Genetics' Ztrawberriez (Strawberry Banana x Zkittlez) nor Fast Buds' Ztrawberriez Auto. The "Sour" in the name does not indicate Sour Diesel; no reported lineage includes Sour Diesel, and a literal strawberry note should not be inferred from the name either — strawberry is described only in the Straw Burst child, where it may come from Tropical Burst. Credit is also muddled by one distributor. The Juicy Clones listing for the child Strawbanger contains a line saying the clone was "Bred by In House Genetics and expertly phenotype hunted by @eagle.eye.genetics," which contradicts every other source crediting Seed Junky. That line refers to the child clone rather than to Sour Straws and is recorded as a distributor claim, not a breeder attribution. Supreme Seed Bank, House of Seeds, and Pack Banditz are seed-bank distributors only, and Kushington is a collaborator on the Lemon Ztrawz child alone. Parent-level disputes carry into the pedigree. Permanent Marker's internal formula is written as (Biscotti x Sherb BX1) x Jealousy by some sources and (Biscotti x Jealousy) x Sherb BX by others, though every version contains Biscotti, Jealousy, and Sherb BX1. Who made the Permanent Marker BX1 is not stated explicitly; it appears only in Seed Junky material, so attribution to Seed Junky is probable rather than documented. For Kush Mints, Leafly's claim that it was "Bred by Mr. Nice Seeds" contradicts every other source and is treated as an error, and the grandparent Animal Mints is described both as Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies x Fire OG and as Animal Cookies x SinMint Cookies. Zkittlez's third parent was never disclosed by its originators. Two further open questions: Citrus Peelz and Lemon Ztrawz are listed with the same parents (Sour Ztrawz x Lemon Up), so whether they are sibling selections or the same plant renamed is unverified. And the only potency figure attached to this name — a FESA Labs certificate of analysis for a sample called "Sour Straws" — is not tied to a verified Seed Junky cut.
Terpene Profile
Caryophyllene — Provisional, unverified. No terpene lab report and no breeder terpene statement exist for Sour Ztrawz itself, so the dominant terpene is Unverified. Beta-caryophyllene is the provisional call because every child with published certificates of analysis leads with it: Citrus Peelz (Sour Ztrawz x Lemon Up, six COAs) and Lemon Ztrawz #1 both list beta-caryophyllene first. This is family inference, not a measurement of this plant.
Limonene — Provisional, unverified. Close behind caryophyllene in the children's panels and the lead terpene in both the Permanent Marker and Kush Mints parents. Straw Burst and Apple Straws listings put limonene in the top three, and one retailer reports Lemon Ztrawz at limonene 0.84%, caryophyllene 0.42%, myrcene 0.21%. Again, parent- and child-derived rather than measured here.
Myrcene — Family context, unverified. Third in the Citrus Peelz, Straw Burst, and Apple Straws profiles, and a documented Permanent Marker terpene. Not measured in Sour Ztrawz.
Linalool — Family context, unverified. Appears in the Citrus Peelz and Lemon Ztrawz #1 panels. Consistent with the Permanent Marker side of the pedigree but unverified for this line.
Humulene — Family context, unverified. Listed in both the Citrus Peelz and Lemon Ztrawz #1 certificates of analysis. A child-strain observation only.
Nerolidol — Family context, unverified. Reported in the Lemon Ztrawz #1 panel. Single child strain; no Sour Ztrawz data.
Aroma: No breeder tasting notes for Sour Ztrawz itself were found, but several independent child-strain write-ups explicitly credit Sour Ztrawz with the sour-candy character, and that attribution is well supported. Leafly says Magic Ztrawz should carry "lots of sour candy notes" and Ztrawbanger "sour candy, dank gas, and gelato notes." Queen Mary Medical and GrowDiaries credit "Sour Strawz for the candy snap" in Lemon Ztrawz, and WholesomeCo describes "Sour Ztrawz's candy-diesel." House of Seeds refers to "the explosively fruity nuances of Sour Straws." The supported description is sweet-sour fruit candy up front with a fuel, diesel, or solvent edge underneath. GrowDiaries alone mentions a faint minty lift, which is plausible from the Kush Mints parent but single-source. Nose intensity is provisionally loud, on the basis that the children consistently describe loud sour-candy-plus-gas aromas and Permanent Marker is a known loud parent, but it has not been directly measured.
Flavor: Flavour for Sour Ztrawz itself is not directly documented. The consistent read from the children is sweet-sour fruit candy with a fuel or solvent edge; the candy snap is specifically credited to the Sour Strawz side in Lemon Ztrawz write-ups, and WholesomeCo frames it as candy-diesel. A literal strawberry flavour should not be inferred from the name — strawberry is described only in the Straw Burst child, where it may come from the Tropical Burst parent.
Effects & Experience
Onset: Unverified. No breeder effects statement and no Sour Ztrawz-specific consumer reviews were found.
Unverified for Sour Ztrawz itself. Children bred from it are described as euphoric, uplifting, and focused, easing into calm body relaxation without couch-lock, but those descriptions belong to Magic Ztrawz, Citrus Peelz, and Lemon Ztrawz rather than to the parent. On potency, a FESA Labs certificate of analysis for a sample named "Sour Straws" (client Exodus, received and tested September 9, 2025) reports THCA 30.04%, delta-9 THC 0.26%, total THC 26.60%, total cannabinoids 30.29%, and CBD not detected. That is a single sample from an unnamed cut and is not confirmed to be the Seed Junky selection, so it is one data point rather than a typical range.
Duration: Unverified. No duration has been reported for this line.
Commonly Reported Uses
Grower's Notes
Seed Junky has published no grow sheet for Sour Ztrawz, and no seed pack, clone listing, or grow diary of the line itself turned up. It reaches growers through its children — Cake Straws, Straw Burst, Apple Straws, Ztrawbanger, Lemon Ztrawz, Magic Ztrawz — so everything below is parent or child context and is a hypothesis until you run the plant.
Growth Structure and Training
Unverified for this line, so the parents set the expectation. Permanent Marker is widely reported to stretch 1.5 to 2 times in the first three weeks of bloom and is called vigorous and suited to FIM and screen-of-green work, Zkittlez growers describe a moderate stretch, and Kush Mints is listed at 100 to 140 cm. Plan on a medium plant with a moderate to strong stretch, top early, and get a trellis up before the flip.
Flowering Time and Harvest
Not published for this line; the display figure is estimated from a tight family cluster. All three parents are reported at roughly 8 to 10 weeks — Zkittlez at 56 to 63 days, Kush Mints at 8 to 9 weeks, Permanent Marker at 8 to 10 weeks — and the children land in the same window. Budget 8 to 10 weeks on an unknown cut and finish by trichome.
Nutrient Management
No feeding notes specific to this line were found. The parents give three signals: Kush Mints is commonly flagged as a steady feeder that wants supplemental calcium and magnesium, Blimburn's Permanent Marker guide pushes heavy phosphorus and potassium in bloom, and Zkittlez is described as sensitive to how the grower handles terpenes.
Growing Media
No medium-specific data has been published for this line or its children. Growers of the three parents typically run coco and soil at those strains' normal pH ranges.
Environment and Climate
Unverified for this line. Seed Junky produces its flower indoors, at a 50,000 square foot converted rocket factory in Northridge, California, and no outdoor report of Sour Ztrawz was found. Parent guides converge on 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit days with humidity dropping to 45 to 50% by mid-flower, and on high light intensity late in bloom where carbon dioxide is available.
Pest and Disease Resistance
No reports specific to Sour Ztrawz were found, so there is no resistance rating to quote. Permanent Marker's dense foliage and heavy colas are repeatedly flagged for botrytis and pest pressure in humid rooms, so defoliate and keep air moving.
Yield
Unverified, with no direct figure for this line. The context is mixed: Zkittlez is described as high-yielding, PhenoDB lists Kush Mints at 580 g/m² indoors, and Permanent Marker is reported medium to medium-high, while among the children Straw Burst is graded "L" by its seed bank and Lemon Ztrawz is called moderate.
Bud Structure and Trichomes
The single breeder-adjacent statement on record is J Beezy's remark, reported by Leaf Nation, that crossing Wedding Cake to Sour Straws for Cake Straws fixed Wedding Cake's pistil problem "while adding more greasiness, color and … 'dank'." That is the clearest clue to what this line contributes — a resinous, oily trichome head, color, and a loud nose — and it is one source describing a child.
Color Development
Unverified. Permanent Marker often turns violet under cool nights, Zkittlez runs colorful, and J Beezy's remark about added color points that way, so purple is plausible. No source describes Sour Ztrawz itself as purple.
Drying and Curing
No protocol specific to this line was found. Growers of the parents recommend a slow dry followed by a multi-week jar cure to preserve Zkittlez-type candy terpenes, which is the sensible default given that the sour-candy character is why the line is used in breeding.
Wash and Extraction
No hash or rosin return figures for Sour Ztrawz exist. The breeder's greasiness remark is suggestive but unquantified, and a Lemon Ztrawz shatter product on the market shows only that a child has been extracted. Begin any solventless plan with a test wash.
History & Origin
Seed Junky Genetics started in the early 2000s in a Southern California garage, where JBeezy's breeding and pheno-hunting produced Ice Cream Cake, Wedding Cake, Kush Mints, The Soap, and Jealousy among others. The company now breeds at scale from a 50,000 square foot converted rocket factory in Northridge, and its main revenue comes from selling flower in California and licensing genetics to partners in several US states, Germany, the UK, and Australia. Sour Ztrawz combines two of Seed Junky's own flagship lines, Kush Mints and Permanent Marker, with 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz's Zkittlez. Its release date and origin year are Unknown. A lab sample named "Sour Straws" was tested on September 9, 2025, so the cultivar was in circulation by late 2025. In 2026 Seed Junky made it the backbone of a "Straws" family of seed drops; Leaf Nation's August 2026 issue writes that it sits "at the core of Cake Straws — and all the new Straws crosses." Cake Straws debuted online in May 2026 and at Mary Jane Berlin in June 2026 at $250 per 10 regular seeds from seedjunkygenetics.com, and Straw Burst was released on July 1, 2026. Earlier and parallel releases under the "Ztrawz" spelling include Ztrawbanger, Lemon Ztrawz (with Kushington), and Magic Ztrawz.
