Afghani Hawaiian provides indica-influenced structure and a shorter flowering window via Afghani landrace crossed with Hawaiian sativa. The Southeast Asian component (Thai sticks, Cambodian, Laotian landraces) contributes the soaring psychoactive ceiling and complex terpene expression. Jamaican Haze adds the signature sharp flavor and high THC percentage characteristic of Caribbean sativa lines.

Terpene Profile

Aroma: Immediately recognizable: sharp lemon-citrus peel over damp earth, with layers of incense, sandalwood, cedar, and fresh pepper. Some phenotypes express more herbal/floral terpinolene notes while others lean into a sweeter citrus-mango profile. Nose intensity is high and lingers.

Flavor: Bright lemon zest on the inhale with earthy, spicy undertones on the exhale. Mid-palate reveals sandalwood and cedar complexity. Finish is peppery with residual citrus sweetness. Some phenos show tropical mango notes. Smoke is smooth but expansive.

Grow Tips: Flip to 12/12 when plant is only 30% of your vertical space — expect 2–3x stretch during transition. SCROG or aggressive LST is essential indoors to manage height and maximize light penetration across the canopy. Top early and often. Multiple toppings create a manageable, even canopy from an otherwise lanky sativa. Target 800–1000 µmol/m²/s PPFD during peak bloom for dense lower bud development. Keep humidity under 50% in late flower — the long bloom period and dense colas create mold risk. Supplement with potassium silicate throughout the cycle to strengthen stems that will support heavy, resin-coated colas. Patience is non-negotiable: harvesting early (before week 12) sacrifices the complex terpene expression that defines this strain. Outdoors, plan staking and support structures well before they're needed — branches will sag under bud weight in the final weeks. History & Origin

Developed by Soma (Soma's Sacred Seeds) in Amsterdam around 2003. Soma combined his favorite Southeast Asian landraces (Thai sticks, Cambodian, Laotian) with Jamaican Haze for THC potency and sharp flavor, then introduced Afghani-Hawaiian genetics to shorten flowering time and enhance taste. The strain won the overall High Times Cannabis Cup in 2004 through Barney's Breakfast Bar, which sourced the genetics directly from Soma — it became one of Barney's best sellers and cemented the strain's coffeeshop legend. By the mid-2000s, Amnesia Haze dominated Dutch coffeeshop menus. Some historical confusion exists because a clone-only 'Original Amnesia' (Hy-Pro/Zwiep, circa late 1990s — Neville's Haze x Afghani) was already circulating in Amsterdam under similar names. Soma's seed version and the Hy-Pro clone became conflated in coffeeshop culture, both simply called 'Amnesia.' The strain continued winning cups through the 2010s, taking 1st Place Sativa at the 2012 High Times Cannabis Cup under Soma's own name.
