Nevil's Wreck

Also known as: Neville's Wreck, Nevil's Trainwreck, Neville's Trainwreck, Nevilles Wreck

Breeder: Rare Dankness Seeds (Scott 'Moonshine' Reach)

Nevil's Wreck is a clone-only sativa-dominant hybrid that was never released as seed. The male plant became one of the most influential breeding studs in modern cannabis, serving as the father of Ghost Train Haze, Moonshine Haze, and over 30 other Rare Dankness crosses. The strain combines the sharp, speedy pine-lemon character of Arcata Trainwreck with the complex incense-forward cerebral intensity of Neville's Haze. As a standalone flower it is prized for its electric headspace, high terpene content, and extreme potency, though its long flowering time and aggressive stretch make it a grower's challenge.

Lineage & Genetics

Cross: Arcata Trainwreck (E32 DrJays Cut) x Neville's Haze

Arcata Trainwreck (E32 DrJays Cut): A legendary Northern California sativa-hybrid clone known for sharp lemon-pine aroma, peppery spice, and a fast-hitting invigorating cerebral rush. Linked to Humboldt County lore. | Neville's Haze: A pure Haze recombination created by Neville Schoenmakers, tracing to (Haze x Haze) x Northern Lights #5. Known for cathedral-incense aromatics, marathon flowering times, and soaring psychedelic sativa effects. One of the longest-flowering and most cerebral cultivars ever developed.

Lineage Dispute

SeedFinder designates the cross as F3 BX2; some sources omit the specific E32/DrJays phenotype and list simply 'Trainwreck x Neville's Haze.' The Arcata Trainwreck cut and DrJays pheno selection are confirmed by Rare Dankness breeder notes on SeedFinder.

Aroma: Bright lemon zest and crushed pine needles dominate the initial nose, backed by eucalyptus, peppery spice, and a dry incense-like Haze finish. Breaking nugs releases sweet herbal and faint floral notes with a woody undertone. Cured jars perfume the room within minutes — total terpene content commonly exceeds 1.5% by weight.

Flavor: Sweet floral earth on inhale with spicy herbal sage and menthol-eucalyptus accents. Exhale brings skunk, green apple skin sharpness, and lingering pine resin. Some phenotypes show a citrus-cleanser brightness reminiscent of alpine forest.

Effects & Experience

Onset: Quick and front-loaded; first 10–20 minutes bring a crescendo of mental clarity, euphoria, and sensory sharpening. Colors and music feel more vivid.

Energetic, talkative, and intensely cerebral with elevated mood, motivation boost, and pattern-recognition enhancement. Some phenotypes add a mild indica-like body giddiness and introspection. At higher doses can become racy or paranoid.

Duration: Moderate to long for a sativa; the peak cerebral phase lasts 1–2 hours before tapering to a mellow, functional afterglow.

Growing Characteristics

Flower Time
65–115 days (phenotype-dependent; most report 9–10 weeks for Trainwreck-leaning phenos, 12–16 weeks for Haze-leaning phenos)
Yield (Indoor)
350–550 g/m² (highly technique-dependent; lower without training)
Yield (Outdoor)
300–680 g/plant in dry temperate climates; harvest late October
Difficulty
Advanced
Height
Tall; 30–60 inches indoor (with training), 60–80+ inches outdoor. Significant stretch in early flower.
Environment
Indoor hydroponic preferred; outdoors in dry, temperate, sunny Mediterranean-type climates. Not suited for short-season or humid regions.

Grow Tips: Plan for extreme vertical stretch in the first 3 weeks of flower — SCROG or aggressive topping/training is essential. Clone-only cuts root readily; flower clones 1 week after rooting for manageable plant size. Hydroponics accelerates maturity vs. soil. Phenotype selection matters enormously — Haze-leaning phenos can run 16 weeks while Trainwreck-leaning phenos finish closer to 9 weeks. Dry at 60°F/60% RH for best terpene preservation.

History & Origin

Developed by Scott 'Moonshine' Reach of Rare Dankness Seeds in Denver, Colorado. Reach had been breeding since the late 1990s under the Moonshine Seeds name on Overgrow and Seedbay forums (1999–2007). When he launched Rare Dankness in 2011, the Nevil's Wreck male became his foundational breeding stud. The strain was never sold as seed — only the male was used to pollinate elite clone-only mothers. Its most famous offspring, Ghost Train Haze (Ghost OG x Nevil's Wreck), won the 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup US Sativa, placed 2nd in 2013 Medical Sativa, and appeared twice on High Times' Strongest Strains On Earth list.
