Chem D is one of the most celebrated phenotypes of the Chemdog line, originating from seeds found in a bag of exceptional cannabis purchased at a Grateful Dead concert in the early 1990s. It is known for its aggressive chemical-fuel aroma, sky-high potency, and heavy trichome production. SFV OG Kush (San Fernando Valley OG) is an indica-dominant OG Kush phenotype selected in the San Fernando Valley, delivering lemon-pine aromatics, earthy hash undertones, and a sturdy, compact plant structure. The combination concentrates Chem D's kerosene-heavy gas with SFV OG's citrus-pine complexity and structural reliability.

Terpene Profile

Aroma: Unapologetically gassy and diesel-drenched. The top note evokes a freshly opened fuel can blended with industrial solvent — a direct inheritance from Chem D. SFV OG enriches the bouquet with lemon-pine zest, wet earth, and faint herbal sour. Undertones of garlic, rubber, and sulfur emerge on the break. A peppery kick from caryophyllene adds complexity. One of the loudest noses in cannabis; indoor grows require carbon filtration.

Flavor: Opens with an unyielding diesel-first hit, quickly joined by lemon-pine and earthy hash. A zesty, solvent-like snap on the inhale mellows into resinous conifer and warm soil. Peppery tingle on the exhale with a faint metallic edge in the aftertaste. The smoke is thick, oily, and palate-coating. A proper flush and slow cure preserves the lemon-pine top notes alongside the fuel base.

Grow Tips: Top early and use ScrOG or LST to manage height and improve light penetration — the OG structure stretches significantly. Lollipop lower branches to improve airflow through the dense canopy and reduce pest pressure. Increase phosphorus in mid-to-late flower to support dense bud development. Harvest at milky trichomes with 10–20% amber for optimal cannabinoid expression. Slow dry at ~60°F and 60% RH for 10–14 days followed by airtight cure to preserve volatile fuel and lemon-pine terpenes. Very strong diesel aroma during flower — carbon filtration is mandatory for indoor stealth. Feeds heavy but requires a proper flush so finished flower tastes diesel-and-lemon, not chemical. Created by Jimmy Nitz of Pisces Genetics, an Oregon-based breeder who received a Chem D cut directly from Chemdog. Nitz crossed it with SFV OG Kush and hunted through multiple phenotypes before selecting #15 as the keeper for its extra-frosty trichome coverage and intensified gas profile. Motorbreath burst onto the competition scene immediately, winning 1st place Recreational Hybrid at the 2015 THC Championship. By 2019 it had placed 10th at the Emerald Cup (Mixed Light, grown by Josh D. of Santa Barbara). The strain earned a spot on Leafly's Top 100 Strains of All Time list.
