Tahoe OG

Also known as: Tahoe OG Kush, Tahoe, Tahoe Kush

Breeder: Ganja Guru (selector); The Cali Connection / Swerve (seed stabilization, circa 2008)

Tahoe OG is widely considered the heaviest-hitting phenotype in the OG Kush family. While the standard Josh D OG cut delivers a cerebral rush followed by a body settle, Tahoe OG skips the cerebral rush and goes straight to the muscles — heavier, darker, and funkier. Synonymous with deep physical sedation, it is the benchmark nighttime OG and a go-to for insomnia patients. SeedFinder documents 52+ direct descendants.

Lineage & Genetics

Cross: OG Kush (phenotype selection from Lake Tahoe / Lassen County region)

Parent strains in encyclopedia:OG KushSFV OGBubba Kush

OG Kush (mother): originated from 1992 Florida Krippy bagseed found by Alec Anderson and shared with Matt Bubba Berger, who smuggled a clone in a rollerblade boot to Josh D in Los Angeles in 1996. Dense, frosty, gassy-lemon-pine aroma; hybrid effect with cerebral onset and body relaxation. SFV OG Kush IBL (seed-line father, for Cali Connection seed version): San Fernando Valley selection inbred by Swerve through multiple generations up to F7. Provides genetic stability and male pollen for seed production.

Lineage Dispute

Some growers speculate the Tahoe cut may be an OG x Afghani hybrid given its broader leaf structure and heavier sedation compared to the Josh D OG cut. Genetic testing has confirmed a clear OG Kush relationship. Seed versions from The Cali Connection are hybrids of the clone x SFV OG IBL, not pure reproductions.

Terpene Profile

DOMINANT

D-Limonene30-34% of total terpene content, 0.3-0.8% by dry weight — citrus, lemon peel, sweet

DOMINANT

Beta-Myrcene13-17% of total terpene content, 0.5-0.9% by dry weight — earthy, musky, herbal

DOMINANT

Beta-Caryophyllene12-19% of total terpene content, 0.3-0.6% by dry weight — spicy, peppery, fuel

SECONDARY

Beta-Pinene6-7% of total terpene content — pine, woody, fresh

SECONDARY

Alpha-Pinene5-6% of total terpene content — sharp pine, conifer

SECONDARY

Terpineol~5-6% of total terpene content — floral, lilac, anise

SECONDARY

Linalool~4-5% of total terpene content — lavender, floral, calming

Aroma: Pungent fuel/kerosene, damp earth, lemon zest, sharp pine needles, and skunk undertones. Darker and rottener than most OG cuts — often described as rotten fuel or wet pine with a chemical tang. Breaking buds brightens the lemon and intensifies the pine-sol character alongside deep skunky musk.

Flavor: Earthy lemon on inhale, peppery-piney fuel on exhale, lingering skunky-spice aftertaste. The exhale is notably harsher and more complex than the inhale.

Effects & Experience

Onset: Fast-acting — effects typically begin within 1-3 minutes of inhalation with a brief initial euphoric lift and mood elevation that is shorter and less pronounced than standard OG Kush.

Rapid transition to heavy full-body relaxation with deep muscular sedation and couch-lock. Strong appetite stimulation followed by irresistible sleepiness and narcotic-like heaviness. Skips the cerebral rush and goes straight to the muscles.

Duration: 2-4 hours depending on tolerance.

Height
Medium; up to 4 ft (1.2m) indoors
Environment
Warm, dry Mediterranean climate outdoors. Controlled indoor rooms with strong airflow are ideal. Temperature 65-80F with mid-to-high 70s during veg, low 70s during flower. Cooler night temps (60-65F) in late flower can bring out purple hues. Outdoor harvest mid-October.

Grow Tips: Tahoe OG is a HEAVY CalMag feeder — this is the single most cited nutrient issue across all grow diaries and guides. Supplement CalMag at 2-5 mL/L from day one of vegetative growth through week 7 of flower. Do NOT wait for deficiency symptoms. Under LED lighting demand increases further. Classic early Mg deficiency sign: interveinal chlorosis (yellowing between veins while veins stay green). Humidity schedule: seedling/clone 65-70%, vegetative 50-55% reducing ~5%/week, flowering 30-40% (critical — dense buds WILL trap moisture), late flower can drop to 30% without issue. Airflow is non-negotiable — multiple oscillating fans plus exhaust. The plant grows thick and dense; without active air movement through the canopy, moisture pockets form inside colas and invite botrytis. Training: SCROG is the #1 recommended method — install screen 12-16 inches above containers, weave stems through during veg, fill 80-90% before flipping. Natural lateral branching makes it a natural SCROG candidate where each shoot becomes an individual cola site. SOG also excellent for maximizing harvest frequency with many smaller plants and minimal training. Topping plus LST: top once at 4th-5th node, tie down main branches to reveal lower bud sites and improve airflow. Defoliation: strategic removal of large fan leaves blocking bud sites, perform lightly in weeks 3-4 of flower (20-30% max per session), second light defoliation around week 5-6 if needed — do not overdo it as the strain needs leaf surface for resin production. Lollipop everything below canopy line before or within first week of flip. Nutrition: heavy feeder — feed heavily with emphasis on calcium, magnesium, and nitrogen as the three most-cited macro needs. Veg EC 1.2-1.8, nitrogen-heavy. Early flower EC 1.6-2.0 transitioning to P/K-forward reducing N by 50%. Mid flower EC 1.8-2.2 with heavy P/K push and peak CalMag demand. Late flower EC 1.4-1.8 tapering. Flush optional with plain pH water final 7-10 days. pH: hydro 5.5-6.0, soil/coco 6.0-6.5. Flowering progression: weeks 1-3 moderate stretch (50-100% height increase) with firm OG-style frame and pre-flowers. Weeks 4-6 aggressive bud site stacking with visible resin production and lemon-pine aroma. Weeks 7-8 significant weight gain with intensified spicy-gassy terpenes. Weeks 9-10 slower-finishing expressions continue packing resin with the heavy dark Tahoe character most defined. Harvest: monitor trichomes — mostly cloudy with 10-20% amber for maximum sedation (which is this strain's purpose). More amber = more couch-lock. Dense colas WILL snap branches in late flower — use bamboo stakes, plant yo-yos, or trellis netting for support from week 5 onward. Drying: whole-plant or branch hang at 60F/60% RH for 10-14 days — density means slower interior drying so patience prevents hay smell. Cure: jar cure minimum 2-4 weeks burping daily first week then every 2-3 days. Patient cure preserves lemon brightness while smoothing deeper pine-earth spice. Potential issues: CalMag deficiency (supplement from day 1), bud rot from dense colas in high RH (keep under 40%), branch snapping from heavy colas on thin OG stems, hermaphroditism under stress (maintain stable environment), low yield without optimized training (SCROG/SOG rewards technique), foxtailing from heat stress (maintain temps under 78F at canopy). Hydro notes: performs excellently in DWC and hempy buckets with elevated resin production versus soil. Maintain water temps below 68F.

History & Origin

OG Kush Krippy bagseed found in Florida in 1992 by Alec Anderson, shared with Matt Bubba Berger who smuggled it to Josh D in Los Angeles in 1996. OG Kush spread through California with distinct phenotypes (Ghost, SFV, Tahoe) emerging in the late 1990s. Ganja Guru selected the Tahoe phenotype in the Lake Tahoe/Mammoth/Lassen County region of Northern California. Swerve distributed elite clones including Tahoe OG as Swerve's Cuts to the medical community in 2003-2004. The Cali Connection was founded in 2008, releasing Tahoe OG in seed form (clone x SFV OG IBL).
