Tropicana Cookies
Also known as: Tropicanna Cookies, Trop Cookies, Trop, MTN Trop
Breeder: Harry Palms / Bloom Seed Co. (original F1); Oni Seed Co. (F2 stabilization and release)
Tropicana Cookies is one of the most visually striking and aromatically intense cultivars in modern cannabis breeding. Its significance lies in dramatic purple-to-nearly-black calyxes (genetic anthocyanin expression, not stress-induced), explosive citrus terpene dominance inherited from Tangie and amplified by GSC's resin production, and its legacy as a foundational breeding parent. Offspring include Tropicana Cherries, Tropicana Punch (parent of Prime Punch), and dozens of other crosses that helped define the terp-forward movement in California.
Lineage & Genetics
Cross: Girl Scout Cookies (Forum Cut) x Tangie (Crockett Family Farms / DNA Genetics male)
Girl Scout Cookies (Forum Cut): The most widely circulated elite GSC clone from Bay Area breeding (Jigga/Cookie Fam). OG Kush x Durban Poison. Contributes dense resin-heavy bud structure, high THC ceiling (25%+), sweet doughy earthy flavor base, purple coloring potential, and indica-leaning physical structure. Tangie (Crockett Family Farms / DNA Genetics): Recreation of Tangerine Dream crossing California Orange with Skunk #1 hybrid. Contributes explosive citrus terpene production (limonene, valencene, terpinolene), sativa growth pattern and cerebral effects, vigorous vegetative growth, the signature orange/tangerine aroma, and uplifting energetic high.
Lineage Dispute
Not a dispute per se — both entities trace back to Harry Palms. Bloom Seed Co created the original F1. After Harry gifted Oni Noodles F1 seeds and the MTN Trop clone, Oni found an exceptional male and created the widely available F2. Following a later split, Harry continued independently under Bloom Seed Co.
Terpene Profile
Limonene — Primary/co-dominant at ~0.55-0.8%; citrus, orange, lemon
Beta-Caryophyllene — Primary/co-dominant at ~0.5-0.62%; spice, pepper, wood
Myrcene — ~0.2-0.4%; earthy, herbal, mango
Linalool — ~0.1-0.3%; floral, lavender
Terpinolene — ~0.05-0.2% (pheno-dependent); piney, floral, herbal
Aroma: Intensely citrus — like peeling a fresh clementine or navel orange. Top notes of tangerine zest and candied orange peel, mid-notes of sour tropical fruit and cinnamon spice, base of sweet doughy cookies and earthy pine. Room-filling aroma even in sealed jars. Properly grown Tropicana Cookies will stink up an entire room when the jar opens.
Flavor: Sharp clementine on inhale, transitioning to sweet citrus-cookie finish with subtle floral and spicy undertones on exhale. Often described as orange juice in flower form. Well-cured batches have residual sweetness that lingers on the palate.
Effects & Experience
Onset: Rapid within 3-5 minutes. Immediate rush behind the eyes and wave of alertness.
Sharp cerebral euphoria at 30-45 minutes peak, mental clarity, creative stimulation, heightened focus. Often compared to espresso for the mind. Transitions into mellow non-sedative body relaxation around 90 minutes. No couch-lock or crash. Uplifting, euphoric, focused, social, creative. A functional daytime strain.
Duration: 2-3 hours total.

Growing Characteristics
Grow Tips: Expect 1.5-2x height increase during first 2-3 weeks of flower (sativa lean). Flip earlier than you would with an indica — if growing in 7-foot room, flip at 18-24 inches. Top at 5th-6th node early in veg to break apical dominance. LST is the single most impactful technique for this strain — start week 2 of veg. ScrOG ideal for the dominant central cola pattern. Lollipopping: remove bottom 1/3 before or during first week of flower to improve airflow and redirect energy. Defoliation at day 1 and day 21 of flower — but don't over-strip, this strain needs leaf surface for terpene and resin production. Coco coir feeding: start EC 0.8, push to 1.4 by week 3 veg, ramp to EC 1.8-2.2 during weeks 3-5 flower. pH 5.8-6.0. In soil go lighter — overfeeding in veg is the #1 beginner mistake. Flip to bloom ratio ~1:3:2 at week 2 of flower. PK boost at half dose during weeks 4-6. Flush/taper starting day 50-55. Watch for: yellowing between veins (weeks 4-6) = magnesium/sulfur deficiency, add Epsom salt. Purple stems during veg are NOT necessarily phosphorus deficiency — this is genetic expression when night temps drop. Verify via pH and runoff before adjusting feed. Primary disease threats: Botrytis (dense colas trap moisture, keep RH below 45% from week 5), powdery mildew (bushy interior), spider mites (warm dry late-flower conditions). Tropicana Cookies is a known HLVd silent carrier — test every mother plant with RT-qPCR before taking cuts. Visual inspection is insufficient. The limonene and linalool that define this strain are volatile monoterpenes — a rushed dry/cure destroys 50%+ of the signature aroma. Target 9-10 day dry at 60-65°F, 55-60% RH with passive airflow only. If dry completes under 7 days you've lost terpenes. Cure minimum 3 weeks non-negotiable for full citrus expression; 4-6 weeks ideal with orange nose continuing to develop through week 6. Common mistakes: drying below 45% RH (crispy outside wet inside = hay smell), trimming before drying (removes protective sugar leaves), curing only 1-2 weeks. Pro tips: coco outperforms soil on yield consistently. Phenotype variation in F2s is wide — purple high-terp keeper not guaranteed from every seed, plan to pheno-hunt. Excellent hash/concentrate genetics. CO2 supplementation at 1200-1400 ppm with high PPFD increases yields 20-30%. Blue-weighted LED spectrum in late flower encourages purple pigmentation.
History & Origin
Circa 2014 Harry Palms (Bloom Seed Co) popped three packs of Crockett/DNA Tangie seeds, found a standout male, and pollinated Forum Cut GSC creating the F1. The MTN Trop keeper pheno was found by grower Top Note and returned to Harry Palms. After 2-3 years Harry gifted Oni Noodles F1 seeds plus the MTN Trop clone. Together they co-founded Oni Seed Co in 2017. Oni found an exceptional F1 male, pollinated MTN Trop producing the Tropicanna Cookies F2 — the version most widely available today. Won 1st Place Sativa at IC 420 Growers Cup 2019 in Barcelona. After a later split, Harry continued under Bloom Seed Co independently.
